Aye

Honey b

Numa

So simple

I am FAT.

In a world where plus size is getting more place in the public eye - I would think that plus size issues would diminish. But when girls like this - are the "model" for what a plus size women looks like - the issues only seem to get bigger. But not in the plus size bigger - just bigger.

For the most part when talking about how appropriate it is to have plus size in the fashion world - people often use the justification of the need to show more body types when in fact - the plus size  models of today,
Lura wells - look's pretty thin and fit to me!

Couldn't be less representative of this desire, or actual need.

As a plus size girl my self - I've been looking at the media for a long time. Going thorough endless images - and
Thought about what I should look like, or how everything will be OK - if only I'll lose some weight. Like most girls in today's western culture.
And then, slowly but surly we started to see the "Plus-Size-Girl". The anti Representation the skinny, supposedly anorexic model which ruled the cat walk and our minds.

Now, in 2014 - we can even name some famous  models that happen to be plus size. And incredibly beautiful. Not shame in that. In fact - More power to them.

But the problem is, that in the plus size world - the higher the number on the scale is - the more diverse body types you tend to get. But while in the "skinny" modeling world you have some diversity (1), the plus size model is very typical . She's has that famous curvy body - that presently I would love to have. She tends to be closer to that famous golden ratio - and even more then "regular" women - because the plus size model is always under a microscope. Not only is she Representing her self and perhaps a brand - but she's supposed to also be the spokes person for the entire plus size community. And they really our not.

And then you got to 9gag. Great laughs and memes to make any kitty lover like myself have a good break for the soul. Until you see what some people think as been "curvy" or "plus-size". You see - nobody wants to see the "F" word. Got forbid. So you have the plus size girls - with near perfect complexion, stunning figure and long lasting legs - and then you have everybody ells - that does not fit into the little box.
FAT.

Say it with me. It's freeing!
I AM FAT.

I'm plus size, and curvy and big, and beautiful - and I have a brain and self esteem.
And I'm proud to have the body that I have. Even if I don't have perfect double d's.

I spent at least 2 years leaning about how words and the use of certain ones - can change the meaning. How the same word can mean different things in different culture - and when I say cultures, I don't just mean the ones in Africa. Sometimes a block way - you have a completely different culture.

We need to understand that the plus size image that we tend to see (2) - are really just a slightly larger version of the same model that we saw in till know. I'm not saying that this was not necessary, or that they don't give some what of a contesting represents for the skinny model. But, Most women will never look like those models.
If you are skinny you tend to look a certain way. So, up till know - you could starve (or try to), Because the goal was to loose weight in order to fit into the box. So supposedly this was the ??? Of the classic American dream  that anyone could make it.
But the plus size girls - are either "it" or not. You either have that amazing figure, or not. And for most of us - we don't have that "it".

And that's OK. That's what we need to understand. We need to start calling the plus size models fat. And we need to hit all those idiot Neanderthals with a meme app with a large stick.

We need to start neutralize the negative context from the word "fat". Is just my body. My body is fat. (imagine my smiling as I say it). That's it. That's all it is. It's not a derogatory word. It's not an insult.

So in the end - what's the big deal? The problem is - that we, as women are still some what controlled to believe that we should only look a certain way. (or 3 ways out of hundreds of possibilities). Also - when asos.com uses a model that is clearly "smaller" than I am (and I'm a UK18 and I don't have curves!) - that's insulting. Because when you shop for a UK26  - you don't need to see someone that is suppose to be like you - the proud fat chic that we are - and she's really not. That's the problem. Plus size models are no more then "regular women in reality. And bigger women in reality - don't really have too much representation in the media - as if to say - that they don't deserve it.

More then anything - we need to understand that absence of a particular group within the media - or "Re-Labeling" a certain group has a direct effect on us as media consumers. At that's the problem. Because just because real large women are barely in the media - does not mean that we don't exist.

(1) But not too much - the models still tend to be tall Amazonian gorgeous, long legged women.

(2) And yes - I Know that there are some exceptions. not all plus size girls in the media our the same little box.

10 things I wanted to let diabetic doctors know - diabetes awareness month

1. Diabetes sucks
. Any attempt to say otherwise is futile.

2. We need to build a strong trusting relationship with our care providers. It helps to make sure thing don't start slipping.
As of today - 13 years into the D, I have no trust in doctors. NONE.

3. Don't waste our time. I stop bringing my pump in when I went in - because it took the nurse 45 minutes to figure out the how to get the info off the device.

4. Kids are actually pretty good with the crappy illness. It's teenagers that tend to fuck up their sugar and rebel. And, it's young adults that tend to have a lot of issues and depression with this. Realizing that your life is not like anybody ells, the jobs lost or just the job efficiency, the girl/boy friends that we don't have or loose and - the money spent on diabetic supplies and time wasted on stuff like 45 minutes in clinic because is trying to figure out the pump for the god knows how many times.

At a some point in life we just want to not have diabetes. For some of us it literally means that we tend to act like we don't have it. We can do just what we need to stay just alive, we test our sugar very little - miss most of our short-term shots, and miss replacing a pump cartridges as immediately as we should....
Want to help? Great. Figure out how to help us TAKE A BREAK. Realize that this is not the time for an AIC of 6 or even 7, but help us avoid the next dka, or and A1C of 12. The all or nothing attitude - that diabetes does require tiers us out. So from 8 test we go down to.... 1. You can offer to check at least 3-4.  Or instead of avoiding some foods - deciding when to eat them and how much. There are ways. Realize that just telling us to be good all diabetics and do the work - is not going to work.

5. For most of us - food is an issue. Even with out dealing with a diagnosed of an eating disorder. Of course - the famous diabulimia is always there - but must of don't do it for very long if at all.
Be real. We tend to be very smart. Leave an opening for us. But ask. And I mean really ask. Because we find it hard to ask for help. But if we get offered - and some point we will break down.

6. If you are into research. Please. Make sure that you patients know this. I hate getting looked over with all my problems - just to figure out if I fit another research.

7. Cut the bullshit. Be honest. You're life work might be the treatment of diabetes. But for us - our more then full time job IS diabetes. Rather we wanted to or not. It's more then our job's life. It is our life.

8. Don't attack us. Even if we are absolutely acting like a total idiot. Like I said - we spend a lot of time with this D. More then you do. If you attack us - we just won't come back. We don't like to to be yelled at (or at least most of us). That kind of defeats the propose on yelling at us to get a grip. Right?

9. More then we need ANOTHER nutritionist we need some physiologist advice and care. In 13 years - I wad NEVER offered by any diabetic care giver some physiological care. And havening some kind of eating disorder - before I was diagnosis with D kinda of makes my wonder what shit my doctors were on - and did it damage their logic.

10. I know. Diabetes tends to be a pretty straight forward illness. Take "20 units of insulin for this amount of carb/sugar" and call me in the morning. And yet - we know that in Medicine there's still more we don't know then do know. And people like me drive doctors nuts. I can be  perfectly fine and wake in the morning with 600, dry as bone and ketones for years. For no reason (that we can find).
Don't preach. I understand that your immediate thought is that WE MUST HAVE DONE SOMETHING. But the truth is - most of us really take pleasure in reaching little goals of the day like: don't hypo, don't go over 200, don't eat more then 150 grams of carb toady.... Stuff like that. Fighting a defiant diabetes that does not play by the rules - is hard and very very frustrating. We don't need to be told stuff like "you don't care about yourself" or "you don't take care of yourself". Believe me. It only leads to one thing. NOT COMING back to the doctor until it's the er doc we need. (and just think - if it's the er doc that tells you this after we coming just to make sure we didn't slip into the beginning of a dka....)
some of just don't fit the mold. Deal with it. Don't yell at us.

The one with the last pair of shorts for summer (2015)

We all have fears . Some of them seem to be clear , but for most of us, most of our fears are not visible . They are things buried deep within us but powerful and have strong influence on what we do on a daily basis .
At some point it was clear to me, that I am afraid of success. It sounds odd, because until My later discovery - I was sure that My fear is failure . But in reality I was the fear to know who I am - take pride in it - and use what I've got. Admit that you can leverage what you've been lucky enough to get in life ... And that is feeling that I had throughout most of adolescence and into some of the early years of the 20s .

It's interesting because I went through a process, and today I'm smart enough to recognize my abilities . Honest enough and I finally love myself. And yet , deep down, there is this fear , deeply rooted in. And these two things coexist.

What scares me most today is not to have fun . Fears change but the root for them - is the same. I'm still afraid of success , but this time I understand the fear of failure is much worse . And I'm tired of " "loving" the failure.  Of the fear , pain , and sorrow . I deserve more than that . And this fear , it's archaic form part of my Personality that I hate to admit  that exist.

They say that the biggest problem of my generation ( our ? ) , is our self love. Our ego and superficiality. And yet . I am at peace with my self. Because who would take care of me if I didn't. And superficial ... I'm very much superficial, alongside have having depth . Yep. As for Egoism .... I love people , animals , and want to succeed . This does not contradict .

My biggest fear at the age of 30 , is that I did not get what I wanted - done .Whatever I want . If only I had some life to live ... I might have had enough time for everything . But for now I have to live as much as possible and as good as possible . And I found that the way to do - is not think ahead too much, but to live the present . The now.
